Crackclaw Point
Fire & BloodCrackclaw Point enters the account of the Dance of the Dragons as a possible refuge for dragons lost from view. The evidence does not establish either dragon’s presence there: instead, the place figures in competing reports about where they may have gone.
A Possible Refuge for Sunfyre
After the attack by Lord Walys Mooton drove Sunfyre from the field outside Rook’s Rest, the dragon disappeared from the historical record for more than half a year. Tales told in the halls of the Crabbs and Brunes suggested that he may have spent part of that time in the dark pine woods and caves of Crackclaw Point. This remains a possibility, not a confirmed account of his movements.
Sheepstealer’s Suspected Whereabouts
Later in the war, Sheepstealer vanished with Nettles. The dragon was thought to be somewhere in Crackclaw Point or the Mountains of the Moon, but the account does not resolve which location, if either, was correct. The uncertainty leaves the region among the places associated with the dragon’s disappearance without establishing it as a settled lair.
Narrative Significance
These reports give Crackclaw Point a recurring, provisional association with dragons that escape observation. Sunfyre’s possible shelter among woods and caves and the speculation about Sheepstealer’s whereabouts do not amount to a continuous history of the place; they show instead how uncertain the record becomes when dragons vanish. The location’s significance in these passages rests on that uncertainty, rather than on a confirmed battle or occupation there.
